The Foundation for Regional Initiatives (FRI) is the non-governmental organization founded in February 1996 and registered on December 3, 1996. The Foundation unites active civic minded citizens aimed at implementing socio-economic and political reforms in Ukraine, with due attention paid to its regional peculiarities.

The Foundation’s objective is to support regional civic initiatives by developing and implementing effective interregional and international cooperation, as well as effective regional policy.

In order to fulfill its mission, the Foundation:

• 
  Supports governmental bodies, academic and scholarly institutions, NGOs in developing and improving effective regional policy in Ukraine;


• 
  Identifies and implements civic regional initiatives in the spheres of science, education, culture, renaissance and development of traditions of the Ukrainian people;


• 
  Renders technical, methodological and other assistance to civic associations contributing to positive changes in the country, by improving conditions for entrepreneurship, introducing new technologies and protecting rights and freedoms of citizens;


• 
  Participates in the development and implementation of programs and projects aimed at initiating effective cooperation between various Ukrainian regions; 


• 
  Takes care about decent representation of the public interests from all regions in social and political life of the country;


• 
  Involves into the cooperation regional non-governmental organizations, local authorities, mass media, entrepreneurs;


• 
  Organizes conferences, seminars, public debates, trainings and public hearings;


• 
  Develops and submits draft laws and by-laws for the consideration by governmental bodies;


• 
  Undertakes measures facilitating social protection and adaptation of the youth, aged and handicapped people and other socially vulnerable groups of population.
